UpgradeCheck script download and Use | Prerequisites & pre-check before upgrade to DP 10.03

If you want to upgrade Data Protector version to 10.03, need refer this post. It provides pre-check script to make sure all prerequisites are met before upgrade your Cell Manager from older version (DP 8.1x, DP 9.0x) to DP 10.03. This script (UpgradeCheck) will abort a DP 10.03 upgrade or produce a warning message when attempting to do a DP 10.03 upgrade if adequate system requirements are not met. Most importantly, perform upgrade with this script will help to avoid many errors during upgrade DP 10.03.

Note:

-This is a PL script. It can use to pre-check before upgrade to DP 10.03.
-It is released in ZIP format. Need to extract it to use.

Warning!

This Script will abort a DP 10.03 upgrade or produce a warning message when attempting to do a DP 10.03 upgrade if adequate system requirements are not met.

Checks Performed:

=================

1) CM Host from “omnidbutil –show_Cell_name” should match with FQDN from DNS

2) Host name should start with an alphabet and not a number

3) Host name doesn’t contain “_”

4) Hostname is not single character

5) Length of short hostname or hostname component in FQDN should not be greater than 15 on windows

6) Hostname retrieved from OS, matches Cell Host name (excluded in case if Cluster detected)

7) Check FQDN is present in Standalone.xml

8) Check FQDN is present in client webservice.properties

9) For HPUX cell manager, ‘kctune maxd’ is enforced to a minimum of 3221225472 bytes

Dependency:

===========

– The script can only be used for an upgrade to DP10.03 and not for fresh install of DP10.03

– Commands “hostname” , “nslookup” should available on PATH in Windows, Environment variable, should be set for

DP_HOME_DIR

DP_DATA_DIR

DP_SDATA_DIR

How to Use:

===============

1) Copy UpgradeCheck.pl to /bin on Windows cell manager and to /opt/omni/bin/ on HPUX/Linux cell manager

2) Perform the upgrade with 10.03 installer

3) Upgrade will be aborted if any of the above checks fail

4) If Aborted or Failed message popup appears in Windows Cell Manager, hit cancel button

i) Look into , you should see debug file with name as UpgradeCheck_.log

ii) Log file list the error, (if dependency for UpgradeCheck.pl is not met, fix it and re run installer)

iii) If Any hostname related error is shown, please correct the hostname accordingly

iv) Run the procedure in Admin Guide / TS Guide to change hostname , including re-generating certificates

v) Verify DP is working fine

vi) Re run the installer

vii) Verify new UpgradeCheck_.log to check for failures, and act as per the instructions listed

Remarks:

Do not retry upgrade, once popup message of pre-requisite message appears, please follow steps from (i), before doing upgrade.
